38, President and CEO, OrthoCor Medical Inc.

John Dinusson isn’t a doctor, and he doesn’t play one on TV. But the president of Minneapolis-based med-tech companyOrthoCor Medical Inc. is a smart and relentless businessman whose ability to oversee the development and marketing of a knee-pain-relief device has the company off and running.

It was Dinusson’s ability to get the OrthoCor Active Knee System into the hands of NBC’s Dr. Oz — who both is a doctor AND plays one on TV — that helped gain the device national attention, which led to further investment and which, now, is a component of the company’s marketing materials.

The OrthoCor Active Knee System is an electromagnetic device encased in a sleeve that slips over the user’s knee and delivers noninvasive pain relief.

The technology itself has been used since the 1970s. But Dinusson found a way to redirect it to a specific market need, shepherded the product through the demanding approval process and built a distribution channel. The payoff: a national supplier deal signed in 2012 that is a key part of the company’s path to success.
