PEMF Patient Spotlight: Kathy from Minnesota

Q: When did your knee pain start?
A: I have 2 bad knees and I have put off having replacement surgery on one knee. I was depending quite a bit on the other knee to carry me through putting off the surgery as long as I could. Well it got to the point where my good knee has become my bad knee with pain.

Q: What did you previously use to treat the pain?
A: I used more icing and some different types of exercises to build up the quad muscles.. I have had the Synvisc injection in both knees twice. The first time it worked really well and it lasted for about a year. The second time it really didn’t work at all, because it made my joints really really swell up.

Q: How has the pain affected your daily life?
A: It’s horrible. I had so much pain, I had to go get a cortisone shot so I could walk on it. It was something that relieved the pain right away but was not long lasting. I hate the pain, but I’m retiring in five months. Then I have all the time in the world to have surgery done and not have to worry about making arrangements with work.

Q: How has the Active Knee System helped you?
A: It does indeed help with the pain. It just helps relax my one leg. I have used it in the day on occasion but I find that it works best for me at night before bed. I have had minor surgery on the one knee and it is extremely painful and I do not like taking narcotic drugs; they don’t agree with me. I was very excited to hear that the Active Knee System would be something that I could turn to after I have surgery, which I will be needing in the next year.
