More than 760,000 people have died since 1999 from a drug overdose and two out of three of those deaths involved an opioid. Approximately 10.1 million people over the age of 12 misused opioids in 2019.[3] The overall national dispensing rate of opioids and prescription pain medication has been declining since 2012, but the dispensing rates continue to be very high in certain areas of the country.[1]
Unfortunately, even with the decline of the dispensing rates, the amount of pain Americans report has not been declining at the same rate.[2] Thus, the need for non-pharmacological, opioid-free, non-invasive pain relief alternatives to improve the way pain is treated and prevent abuse, addiction, and overdose before they start.
